about

Featuring Wendy Ponting.

This track began life in a very unusual manner. In 2004 I was taken into hospital with a serious illness. As I recovered many friends rallied around me in love and support.

Stuck in my hospital bed, going a little stir crazy, the idea and simple melody for this track came to me. My great friend, and fellow musician, Paul Nagle came to visit me and brought me a tiny portable synthesizer to allow me to develop the ideas for the track and help me hold it in my memory.

When I got home from hospital, many weeks later, I began work on the track. Andy Boland added wonderful guitar and bass parts and Wendy Ponting sang the, hauntingly beautiful, vocals.

I realised a long held ambition, to create part of the unique soundscape for this track and sampled a disused railway bridge to add to the drum sounds. A metal wall on the bridge creates a wonderful sound, when struck in a certain way. Before the invention of samplers I'd wondered how I could get this sound into a piece of music. It took me over twenty years to do so.
